5 Keys to a Wildly Successful New Supervisor Training Process
March 28, 2019
12:00 – 1:00 pm ET
Over the years, with an increasing gap between the need for and supply of new leaders, many organizations have had no choice but to (best case) rapidly promote high performers or (worst case) fill the slot with a warm body. The result? Poorer initial results and a lack of organizational preparation to support their new leaders with the learning and resources they need to succeed.
With or without the needed learning, expectations and support, from day one, managers are forming habits. They are developing management strategies and creating attitudes based on trial-and-error approaches that may or may not work. They are emulating the bosses they have had before – whether those approaches are worthy of emulation or not. When they develop strategies and habits without knowing sound leadership fundamentals, they, like any other human being, are locking in behaviors, behaviors that become harder and harder to change when they do learn better approaches.
All of this is a problem, and that’s not all. When you toss a pebble into a pond, you know that the ripples extend far beyond the initial plop. When you put a leader into their role, you are tossing a big stone into the water. The ripples of productivity, workplace culture and environment, job satisfaction and retention and significant – and they don’t go away as fast as the ripples on the pond.
